Ecclesisates 5:8 – 6:9 The meaning of wealth

The Bible has a lot to say about money and wealth, because don’t we always want just a bit more? We are seduced by all the things it offers us.  But we are being fed a lie by our materialistic culture, more stuff and more money will not make us happy.  So last Sunday Dave gave us “The top 10 reasons why wealth doesn’t cut it” from Ecclesiastes 5:8-20, (plus Luke 12:15 and Mark 8:36), he gave some great illustrations in his “top 10” that show the meaninglessness of wealth. The gospel of Mark says it so well,  what good is it for us if we gain the whole world yet forfeit our soul? We lose eternally.

So what can we do about this? Well Ecclesiastes says we can enjoy God’s good gifts, but we need to recognise that God gives them to us, and we must not replace God with other things like money. We need to be content in God, and who He is, being generous with what He has given us.
