What do you work for? To live? To find satisfaction, significance or security? Because you envy others? To leave a legacy? To make your life miserable? These were the questions considered in the talk from Ecclesiastes last Sunday. None of these reasons really satisfy, or they make us unhappy and stressed. So what good is work? Well, the Bible says it is “of little value”, it can be enjoyable and it certainly isn’t all bad, but is has limited value. Ecclesiastes suggests that we won’t find satisfaction there. But we will find satisfaction if we are doing God’s work,1 Corinthians 15:58 says to “Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain”. This is where we will find satisfying work, so invest in God’s work because it is valuable for all eternity.
